In order to sustain Malaysia’s impressive growth and sustainable development by achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, the energy sector requires an influx of cleantech and clean energy capabilities and foreign investment - which the Canadian private sector and crown corporations are ideally positioned to deliver. To kick-off Canada’s delegation to the International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition and Conference (IGEM), this event will convene leading senior business leaders and government officials in the energy and finance sectors to explore more Canadian engagement to advance Malaysia’s transition to net-zero. We hope to drive dialogue between Canadian and Malaysian decision makers on how to form tangible partnerships to advance common sustainability goals based on areas of expertise and capability, such as renewable/clean energy, cleantech, wastewater technology, and carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS).

Conference Hall 7C 2.00 PM MALAYSIA CARBON MARKET FORUM 2023
Launched on 9 December 2022, Bursa Carbon Exchange (BCX) is Malaysia’s commitment towards encouraging sustainable growth, ensuring competitiveness and staying relevant in the global market, ultimately enabling Malaysia to achieve an aspiration of its target of becoming a net zero greenhouse gas emission (GHG) country nation as early as 2050.

Providing a trading platform of carbon credits between green asset owners and other entities to enable the transition towards low-carbon practices is not enough. The success of the Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM) is dependent on the development and nurturing of a vibrant local ecosystem that brings together key actors and players. As part of this effort, BCX is organizing Malaysia’s inaugural Carbon Market Forum in conjunction with the International Greentech and Eco Products Exhibition and Conference Malaysia (iGEM).

The inaugural Carbon Forum will be held as a half-day event. With knowledge sharing as the focus, participants will have the opportunity to learn from both local and leading experts in the field, as well as network with the wider VCM community.

Conference Hall 8A 2.00 PM FORUM ON WATER FOR GROWTH: ENSURING SUSTAINABILITY AND RESILIENCE
As the global community grapples with the 3 planetary trilemmas i.e., climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution, the role of water management in ensuring sustainable development has to be asserted and given priority. Water, often referred to as the "blue gold" of our planet, is a finite and precious resource crucial for life, ecosystems, and economic activities.

However, the availability and quality of freshwater are increasingly threatened by a convergence of factors, including population growth, urbanization, pollution, and, most notably, climate change. This complex interplay of challenges has necessitated a paradigm shift in how we manage and utilize water resources, with a growing emphasis on establishing a water footprint to strengthen climate resilience through sustainable water management.

The Water Footprint enables us to quantify and mitigate the environmental impact of our water use, adapt to changing conditions, and work collaboratively to ensure that this vital resource remains available for current and future generations in a world affected by climate change. The Water Sector of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change is introducing the concept of Water for Growth and exploring the theme of Water Footprint to ensure sustainability and resilience. This theme will be explored in-depth during the forum at the International Greentech and Eco-products Exhibition and Conference Malaysia, highlighting its importance on the global stage.

This forum aims to foster impactful conversations and insights among experts, policymakers, industry leaders, and researchers on the significance of establishing water footprints and how it can be harnessed to bolster global efforts towards sustainable development and climate resilience.
