IGEM 2019 TO CONVENE 10 INSIGHTFUL CONFERENCES Eminent Climate Change Innovators to Address Packed Audience

7 October 2019, Kuala Lumpur – Organised by the Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change (MESTECC), the region’s most successful green technology, business and innovation
platform, the International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition & Conference Malaysia (IGEM), returns for its landmark 10 th year with 10 conferences featuring thought leaders covering climate impact topics such as green financing, renewable energy, energy efficiency and green buildings.

With its track record of topical conferences, IGEM has come to be known as a knowledge hub on climate action, attracting hundreds of speakers and multitudes of participants from across the world. This year, IGEM will be collaborating with countries and corporations leading the charge to offer interesting perspectives on the current climate scenario and how it can be addressed effectively.

Minister of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change, Yang Berhormat Puan Yeo Bee Yin said, “Over the years, IGEM has played host to several conferences that have influenced us and shaped our mindsets to be more sustainability-driven. These conferences have brought together the best minds in the green technology sector and have featured prominent speakers, who have generously shared their knowledge and know-how.”

“It is indeed a huge opportunity for all of us to hear first hand from these researchers, innovators and corporate leaders and explore how we can incorporate their insights to further our climate impact positively. I urge everyone to make the most of these conferences to learn more and do more,” she added.

IGEM 2019’s conferences will commence on day one with Kuala Lumpur Mayor, Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Nor Hisham Bin Ahmad Dahlan welcoming delegates to Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur’s “KL Towards Low Carbon Society” forum which will feature panel sessions, talks and technical visits highlighting Kuala Lumpur’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions.

On the same day, the Inaugural Climate Change Conversations Forum themed Future of Corporations: Climate Change Risks & Opportunities will be organised by Shell Malaysia with well-respected speakers such as Dr Cho-Onn Khong from Shell International and Tao Wang from The World Bank, who will share their knowledge and expertise.

As a nexus of climate action innovation, the Circular Economy & Energy Conference organised by The Nordics, a project by The Ministers for Nordic co-operation, will provide delegates with an opportunity to gain better insights with discussions focused on adopting a circular economy mindset and expanding renewable energy utilisation in Malaysia.

The Malaysian Green Building Council supported by MESTECC and Malaysian Green Technology Corporation (GreenTech Malaysia) will be hosting the International Urban Sustainability & Green Building
Conference (IUSGBC) 2019. The two-day conference will cover topics such as solving landfill waste separation into resources, urban farming and food security as well as corporate Malaysia’s climate change readiness.

On the second day, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands will be hosting the Sustainable Waste Management seminar continuing the embassy’s efforts to promote sustainability in daily practice, generating positive social and environmental impact.

The Canada Forum @ IGEM will see seminars and networking events presented by the High Commission of Canada sharing the experience of Canadian companies in the areas of waste energy, renewable energy,
energy efficiency, water and waste water with an overarching aim of expanding cooperation and trade. Exploring the challenges, opportunities and current developments within the global green financing market, the Green Technology Financing Workshop on the final day of IGEM 2019 will be organised by Capital Markets Malaysia, examining capital market funding options for small to mid-tier green entrepreneurs and enterprises.

Acting Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer of GreenTech Malaysia, Tuan Syed Ahmad Syed Mustafa said, “IGEM 2019 will convene thinkers, disruptors, policy makers and academicians to voice their opinions and share insights, opening us to new ideas, new climate actions and new economic possibilities.”

“We aim to make the exhibition a holistic learning experience that enables Malaysians to contribute to the global green agenda as well as maintain IGEM’s position as a powerful platform that continues to deliver sustainable solutions,” he added.

The three days of IGEM 2019 happening on the 9 th – 11 th October is open to trade visitors and to the general public, with the exhibition aiming to attract over 35,000 visitors from more than 35 countries to participate in this significant anniversary year of the event.
